I have been utilizing sound as a material and medium in my artwork since 1995.
I was openly introduced to music as a child and became immediately attracted,
playing clarinet, then saxophone through high school. In college I discovered
music production through the most simple means, thanks to the invention of the audio cassette four track.
A sound collage project was created with friend John Allen in 1988 entitled "Algae".
Upon moving to Seattle in 1992 I began to make field recordings, bootlegs of live shows on cassette tape, and experiment with sound, creating the album "Entropy" (and other yet-unreleased experiments) in 1993.
Between 1995 and 2006 I explored utilizing the combination of sound and object in my artworks.
This methodology manifested in the use of experimental sounds, glitch, and field recordings in installation works, and sculpture which utilized, and created sound ("Secret Records"). I began to share field recordings and sound art via self-released audio releases on CD-r, radio broadcasts, and the internet, which I continue to this day.
During this time I was also involved in a variety of music projects, collaborations with individuals, collectives, and bands.
These include Sun City Girls, Climax Golden Twins, Aframes, 4shadows, Liver & Bacon, Seek Six Sick, Apa Kabar, Will Kitchen, Dave Knott, Eric Lanzillotta, Matt Shoemaker, Robert Millis, and Robert Zverina.
I was also a member of the group Factums.
In 2005, I began a series of travels through Southeast Asia. During these trips I amassed a collection of field recordings and music which I self-released in CD-Rs, now digitally available at my Bandcamp page.
Selections from my Southeast Asian field recording archive have also been released on the Sublime Frequencies label.
Artwork I have created which included sound has been seen/heard/performed in the United States, Canada, Europe, Indonesia, Japan, the Middle East, Vietnam, and is included in the collection of the Seattle Art Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, Western Bridge, and numerous private collections.
